Indian Hole Brook in Indian Wells State Park

Indian Hole Brook in Indian Wells State Park

Here’s a close-up of Indian Hole Brook located in Indian Wells State Park in Shelton, Connecticut.  This is a beautiful little stream that runs over Indian Wells Waterfall and then flows into the Housatonic River.  It’s a very short and easy hike and I would recommend visiting if you’re in the area. Headstones in a cemetary

Happy Late Halloween

BOO! I had planned to post this for Halloween, but had forgotten.  However, here in New England, Trick or Treating was postponed until this weekend, so I thought I would go ahead and post it.  This was taken in an old cemetary in Monroe, Connecticut. Exhibit inside the dome at Dinosaur State Park

Dinosaur State Park, Rocky Hill Connecticut

About a month ago, I stopped at Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill, Connecticut and took the photos below.  It’s a pretty cool place with a dome shaped exhibit hall that houses dioramas, specimens, and nature exhibits.  The park was opened in 1968 after construction workers discovered dinosaur tracks during excavation.  They’ve preserved many of the tracts […]

View to the west from Heublein Tower at Talcott Mountain State Park

Views from Talcott Mountain State Park

Located in Simsbury Connectiut, Talcott Mountain State Park’s main attraction is the Heublein Tower.  The tower offers a 360 degree commanding view of the area.  To the north, it’s possible to see Massachusetts on a clear day and Hartford is visible to the east.  The tower was previously owned by Gilbert F. Heublein, head of […]

Waterfall at Indian Wells State Park - Shelton, Connecticut

Waterfall at Indian Wells State Park, October 2011

There are some photos on this blog of the waterfall at Indian Wells State Park in Shelton, Connecticut, but I thought they could be better, especially since I’m now using Nik Software’s Color Efex 4.0 in post-processing.  So, yesterday I was driving past the park and decided to stop and take a few shots.  It was […]

This entry is part 4 of 6 in the series Housatonic River

This entry is part 4 of 6 in the series Housatonic RiverThis afternoon, I drove to Webb Mountain Park in Monroe, Connecticut and hiked up to the scenic overlook, aka “Goat Rock”.  If you park at campground site number 2, it’s a very short hike to the overlook.  Unfortunately, I think the gates are closed after November 1st until Memorial Day […]

Mute Swan (Cynus olor)

Mute Swan at Hammonasset Beach State Park

Early this year (I believe it was May) I took a trip to Hammonasset Beach State Park and was able to get the photo below of a Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) on one of the small ponds in the park.  I haven’t posted this yet and had honestly forgotten all about it until I was trying […]

Pomperaug River at Audubon Center at Bent of the River

Audubon Center at Bent of the River

The Audubon Center at Bent of the River (I’ve checked a couple of times and it is “Bent”, not “Bend”) is a very nice tract of 660 acres in Southbury, Connecticut owned by the National Audubon Society.  I was driving in the area and just happened upon the sign for the Center and decided to stop.  I’m really […]
