Photo of a Northern Flicker

I’ve seen a few Northern Flickers (Colaptes auratus) in the yard over the years.  This one spent quite a bit of time in the yard a few weeks ago, feeding on the new insects of the year. On the day I took this photo, I was just about to leave the house, but when I looked […]

This entry is part 3 of 13 in the series Birds at My Birdfeeder

This entry is part 3 of 13 in the series Birds at My BirdfeederA couple of days ago, I looked out the window and saw at least a half dozen American Goldfinches (Carduelis tristis) at the bird feeders and the nearby shrubs.  They were enjoying both the thistle feeder and were sharing the sunflower feeder […]

Osprey Photos from Hammonasset Beach State Park

I had the day off today and visited Hammonasset Beach State Park.  I was hoping that maybe I would catch some of the migratory birds coming in, but I think because it’s been such a cold, wet Spring, the migrations may be slightly behind this year. At the park, I walked out to Willard’s Island, […]

One of the Local Squirrels, Frustrated by the New Bird Feeder

Here’s a photo of one of my local hoodlums squirrels as he tries to figure out how to pillage my Nature Products Model 431 bird feeder.  So far, he’s been totally unsuccessful and is relegated to picking up scraps that the birds leave.  If you look closely at his fuzzy little face, you can see the […]

Deer browsing

Deer Fawn Browsing at the Edge of Woods

A few weeks ago, I looked out my window and saw this fawn and her mother browsing at the edge of the woods.  It’s been a tough winter here and at the time there wasn’t much green, so I’m sure they were really hungry.  Luckily, it’s started to green up a little here in Connecticut, […]

Black-Capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus)

This entry is part 1 of 13 in the series Birds at My Birdfeeder

This entry is part 1 of 13 in the series Birds at My BirdfeederIn an earlier post, I mentioned that I had purchased and installed a Nature Products 431 squirrel-proof bird feeder.  So far, it’s been working great – the birds really like it and the squirrels can’t figure out how to get to the […]

Photos of a Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis)

This entry is part 2 of 13 in the series Birds at My Birdfeeder

This entry is part 2 of 13 in the series Birds at My BirdfeederI recently purchased and installed a Nature Products Model 431 birdfeeder and I’m starting to get quite a few birds visiting.  The great thing about this particular birdfeeder is it’s squirrel proofing.  I’ve had many battles with the squirrels in the past […]

Turkeys in Litchfield County, Connecticut

Turkeys in Litchfield County, Connecticut

I saw these Turkeys in a field in Litchfield County, Connecticut close to Litchfield and was able to quickly take some shots of them before they headed back into the woods.  There was a flock of about a dozen and they didn’t seem in too big of a hurry.
