Hawk on the Ground

Cooper's Hawk

First, I apologize for my absence from the blog over the last month or so – life has been really hectic.  However, I have lots of new material for posts that I’m anxious to share over the next several months.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to return to publishing at least several posts a week, if not more.

I do have many more waterfall photos, but I’ve decided to take a break from waterfalls before this turns into strictly a “waterfall blog”.

Above is a photo of a hawk (I believe it to be a Cooper’s Hawk, but I’m not 100% sure on the type of hawk).  He (or she) was in my front yard when I came home one day for lunch and was on the ground feeding on what I think was insects (maybe grasshoppers?).  He/she didn’t seem to be at all concerned with my presence for quite a while.  This shot was taken right before the hawk decided it was time to exit the vicinity.  I did get a few shots of it flying, but I wasn’t too pleased with them.
