Gray Wolf at Beardsley Zoo

Gray Wolf at Beardsley Zoo

Gray Wolf (Canis lupis) at Beardsley Zoo

Today was another day that I wanted to stay relatively close to home.  I headed out with the intention of checking out the foliage in southern Connecticut, but after a short drive, it was looking bleak – most of the autumn colors are gone (except for in my neighborhood, where it’s still not bad).  So, I went to plan B, which was to visit the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  I’m embarrassed to say that after living in Connecticut for many years, this was my first time at the zoo.

The Beardsley Zoo is relatively small;  however, the exhibits they have are very well done and well maintained.  I had a really good time and felt it was worth the $12 entrance fee.  It seemed like some exhibits were closed that might be opened in the summer, so I’ll have to check it out again next year.

This photo is of one of their Gray Wolves (Canis lupis).  This (along with the Red Wolf) exhibit was my favorite one at the zoo – there is a room with some kind of glass or Plexiglas that allows you to watch the wolves.  I could have spent quite a bit more time just sitting watching these beautiful canines.

I seem to be saying this a lot lately, but I have tons more photos of the zoo that I’ll be posting in the upcoming weeks.
