Views from Talcott Mountain State Park

Located in Simsbury Connectiut, Talcott Mountain State Park’s main attraction is the Heublein Tower.  The tower offers a 360 degree commanding view of the area.  To the north, it’s possible to see Massachusetts on a clear day and Hartford is visible to the east.  The tower was previously owned by Gilbert F. Heublein, head of a prominent family in the area.  Many of the rooms in the tower have been renovated and are interesting in themselves.  In addition, some of the rooms have natural history exhibits.

It took me about 30 to 40 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the tower.  The first part of the trail is relatively steep so be prepared.  The day I went, I saw lots of kids and most of them seemed to be doing fine with the terrain and the length of the trail (there were a few exceptions and some crying was involved).

Overall, it was a very worthwhile trip and one of the first places I would take a visitor to the area if they were in decent shape and could handle the hike.
