Photo of a Northern Flicker

I’ve seen a few Northern Flickers (Colaptes auratus) in the yard over the years.  This one spent quite a bit of time in the yard a few weeks ago, feeding on the new insects of the year.

On the day I took this photo, I was just about to leave the house, but when I looked outside, there were tons of birds at the feeders and this Flicker on the ground.  So, I ended up staying and shooting photos for an hour or so.
